Exercise to combat depression and anxiety.?

I have major depressive disorder that recurs every year to two years. I am currently having a bout of depression that is including both anxiety and depressed mood. I am on Elavil (50mg) and Wellbutrin XL (300mg). My question is, how many of you have used exercise as a means to combat your depression and did it help? I have been walking two miles per day for the last couple of weeks…some days are better than others but I’m having alot of blah, anxious days. Evenings/nights are always better for me. Any advice from others who are in or have been in my shoes?
